The synchronising plug and socket
is used as an interlock system which ensures safe operation during procedures
such as synchronising and voltage selection.
A six contact system with a key and keyway is used. The combination, together with two alternative
socket bezel fixing positions, provides a series of 12 non-interchangeable socket
sets. These accept plugs type SPS100
which provide 34 different arrangements of plug connections for linking
adjacent plug pins. In addition, a
series of 6 non-interchangeable socket sets is available which accept cable
entry plugs type SPS104 and SPS106.
Suitable for mounting on a 5mm
thick sheet steel panel, or on panels above 5mm thick using a mounting adapter,
each socket comprises an insulated moulding which accommodates six contact
assemblies with silver plated phosphor bronze leaf contacts. Each contact has a 2BA nickel plated brass
terminal stud at the rear. A bezel,
which accommodates the interlock keyway, has four inserts to provide
alternative interlocking positions. A
cover is fitted over the terminals.
An assembly of two insulated
mouldings, and a number of silver plated phosphor bronze contact pairs,
together with dummy pins when required, provide a maximum of six protruding
pins. The front moulded portion provides
accommodation for contacts and pins plus a part of the interlock system. The rear moulded portion contains an
interlock key and holds the contacts and pins in position in the front
moulding.
Two versions with entry for four
or six flexible cables respectively, are available. Each plug has six permanent contact pins and is for use with a
socket to a particular interlock pattern as shown in Figure 3. This combination provides a
non-interchangeable trailing lead connection for purposes such as synchronising
trolleys.
Voltage
rating: 660V Current rating:
5A continuously, 300A for 1 sec.
Arrangement of the engraving
positions on the plug top and socket bezel are shown in Figures 5 and 6,
together with the number of digits which can be accommodated.
